The site was founded by software engineer Mike Caro and it quickly became the most popular online poker site in the world. In 2003, two major changes to the online poker world occurred. The first was the founding of the first major online poker network, PartyPoker, which was quickly followed by the launch of the first major online poker tournament series, the World Series of Poker.Since then, the popularity of online poker has exploded. In 2004, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) was passed in the United States, which led to the closure of many online poker sites. In the same year, PokerStars, then the world’s second-largest online poker site, launched the world’s first online poker tournament series for real money.Today, the online poker industry has grown exponentially and is now worth billions of dollars. There are hundreds of online poker sites that offer a variety of tournaments, ring games, and other forms of online poker.
